Full Version: Podcast Episodes Crashing Ipods?

Anyone experienced an episode of their podcasts crashing 5G iPods when they start up? It just happened with my new episode of Extra Points (#55) and a listener complained of that as well. As far as I know, I didn't do anything differently than I normally do. So I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what the resolution is. Hopefully it's as simple as re-uploading the show...

Yes! It's pissing me off. It happens everytime I listen to a CBC podcast. It sucks because like most people I load up the iPod before work so I can't listen to the show when it does happen (your show worked, coincidentally - hey, cheerleaders listen too).

Two shows that didn't work...I deleted from the iPod, deleted from the computer, synced the iPod to rid it of them, re-downloaded, them, then re-synced the iPod and they both worked (doesn't work for the CBC ones though).

I contacted the CBC podcast people about this, they have no idea. It sounds like it's a universal problem with the 5g and iTunes, maybe?

Well, I guess it's a bit better if it's sporadic. If it happens to one listener, though, that's still one listener too many...

Actually, sporadic problems are a bitch to track down. You'd be better off if there was consistency/reproducability in the problem.

Makes me happy not to have an iPod. Good luck with that.

Well, it's not so much my problem as a listener, because I know what my show sounds like, but I've got people who listen to my show, as do we all, who have iPods, which therefore makes it my problem...

Yeah, I realized after posting that I made it sound like this wouldn't affect me b/c I don't have an iPod. I DO realize it's a listener problem and thus potentially my problem as a produce if my show inadvertantly pisses off a listener. What I MEANT to say in two separate thoughts is:

A) As a listener, I'm glad my device is not plagued by such a problem.

cool.gif As a producer, I hope some resolution comes from you (and Apple, I hope) trying to narrow this down and work out the bug.

I had a few listeners report that their iPods were also crashing.

Go to the fourth post in this string - One person was able to get the problem fixed

As near as I can tell it is not an issue with the podcast. But rather the iPod instal for the latest update. Becasue - the extra points podcast mentioned above works fine on my 5G iPod.

Thanks, Rob. I'm glad that there's a fix, though I think it's kind of a tough sell to ask my listeners to restore their iPods to listen to my show... smile.gif

Did you have any luck determining what it was in your file that the iPod didn't like?
Zee and Zed
That "fix" doesn't work, Rob, I've tried it. And then restoring 50gb (leave some space open for podcasts) from a library of 130gb of music is just not worth trying it again.

I saw on an Apple forum that someone found a pain-in-the-ass workaround by setting their podcasts to start at the 1st second of the show instead of starting at the zero point. Obviously there is a firmware issue with the iPod.

Hmmm...happened to me, too. Was trying to listen to Podcast411...

I've updated to the 1.2 firmware. Is that true of everyone experiencing this problem?
