Just wanted to know what types of mics Vidcasters are using. List em here!

I've just been using the on camera mics (sucked) until now, just got a lapel mic today, we'll see how that one works.

well, because i'm a cameraman by trade, i have and/or use pro gear. I have an Azden shotgun mic and I use sony or audio-technica lavalier (wired or wireless) mics.

Peace,

I use a Shure shotgun mic, and the onboard mics on my XL1's as backups.

Peace,

Brad.

I use a RODE NTG2 shotgun mic.

I use the same mike as for my audio shows, a $30 Dynex Unidirectional something.

It's kind of limiting for video though, not much freedom to move around without dramatically changing sound quality.

Audio Technica and Sennheiser wireless lavs and AT shotgun mic.

I use a Sennheiser wireless package. What's great about it is that it comes with a plug in transmitter for a regular handheld mic and there is a wireless lav also.

There is a 100 series (cheaper and the one we use) and a more expensive 500 series. I've used them both and for my needs the 100 series works great.

Here ya go:

Audio Technica AT-822 Stereo Mic. Nice mic with excellent stereo separation. I use this for video and audio soundseeing tours.

Shotgun mics are good when you have one or two people close together talking directly at the mic. They're poor for capturing ambience or doing anything where you're capturing live music.

im using a RODE myself.. works really well for video I want to buy 2 lavs but im not sure what to get. Since I am getting another camera. I have about 200 to 500 left over for the mics and everything but to get what I really want it is going to be about 1200

I'm working on my first vidcast. Unfortunately, I can't quite justify spending 400-500 bucks for a wireless lavalier. I'm just curious if anyone has any lower end wireless lavalier mic systems that offer reasonable quality.

We're using the Audio Technica Pro88W's but I've got to say for $140 each they could really be better.

alas. i would love to have that rode has anyone heard anything bad about them?

hey guys, i was just wondering about this.

as you record video on 1 piece of equipment, and record audio with a separate external microphone, what program or method do you use to link them together?

thanks.
Ronny.
The Right Rev Chumley
I just record it all at the same time through the external mic port on my Camera.

Although I'm sure you could sync it in Final cut or in Premire pretty easy, even easier if you use the standard Clacker before each scene.

i have a similar predicament but i have to "prove I'm human" first---post coming....

It's style of limiting for video though, not much choice to stroll without dramatically shifting perfect characteristic.
