Full Version: Usb Mic That Works With Vista?

I have searched through various sites and forums and can't seem to find a USB mic that is Vista-compliant.

I went on Blue's forum and found that they didn't seem to be courting Vista user at all. All requests were met with "Stay with XP."

Which I don't plan on doing.

So, my question is: is there a USB mic that WILL work with Vista? One with decent sound quality?

Thanks!

While I can't help you with the microphone in Vista, I can tell you that if you're afraid of upgrading, here's a good list of Reasons to upgrade from Vista to XP.

Thanks. smile.gif

I actually like Vista (I'm a weirdo), but I just bought this laptop so most of the kinks that were really irritating may have been worked out. I haven't really had any issue with it.

I may just buy a mic and use it with the old laptop. I doubt it will be Blue. I really wasn't impressed with the way they handled the issues of their customers. I'd hate to have a problem with it and need customer support. smile.gif

I'm just glad you didn't tell me to get a Mac. That seems to be the go-to answer for these types of things.

For USB mics it would really be a matter of having the right drivers. You could check out the manufactuer's website for drivers or even look through the models and see if they're Vista compliant.

I had this problem when I went to Vista at the end of last year. It took me FOREVER to figure it out, but since my company has the top level of Microsoft and after a couple weeks they figured it out. It is because Vista doesn't come pre-installed with the USB 'generic' sound system. They pointed me to a hotfix on the Microsoft Vista website which I downloaded and ran, then when I re-booted all my USB audio stuff worked like a charm, even my Logitech old USB Microphone / Headset.

I don't remember what it was called, but that might point you in the right direction to find the solution.

Thanks so much! That's a great help. I think from this alone I can figure it out. Thanks! smile.gif

ETA: By the way, in case anyone else ever searches for this thread and finds it, I've just found this website from Samsun telling how to use their USB mics with Vista. smile.gif
