In an attempt to revive some activity, I thought I'd poll to find out who's the newest podcaster here. I signed up in June '07 but didn't really get serious with the podcasting until August.

I'll play along.

I'm not the winner. My first podcast was a few months before yours.

I just started on 1 February 2008 with an audio blog. I hope that it counts as a podcast (RSS feed with enclosures), because the content just isn't what I'd like it to be, even after 10 episodes.

As long as they're audio or video, that sounds like a podcast to me.

Although your join date is two or three weeks before mine. (And your member number is a little lower.) I assume you were signed up for a while before creating a podcast.

It takes a while to get the content and quality up to what one would like it to be.

You should get your feed listed or re-listed; it's not appearing on your member page. I suspect it was wiped in the crash.

I never put it there, because I first want to get the content good enough. I still have that once the mic is in front of me that I all freeze up. I can bullet point all I want, but once I see the mic, I don't know what to say, unless I can read it. And when I read printed text aloud, it sounds all stiff, with a multitude of uhms.

Have you thought about a lavalier mic that you can clip to your collar, so you don't have to stare at the microphone? If the hurdle is a psychological one of staring down the mic it might help to remove it from view.

You might want to try a script. Don't use bullets, write full sentences. Then you're less likely to freeze up since you're just reading it. When you become more comfortable then you could cut back.

Since I've been doing mostly poetry, I have to work from written word so I tend not to have that problem. The only exception is my The Silent Pen podcast which is more traditional, but I tend to find I leave huge gaps between sentences. (Audacity's "truncate silence" tool helps with that.)

I also noticed that Podcast Pickle may have lost about 2,000 members due to the crash (based upon member numbers). I can't say for certain, but I believe the total members were around 32,000 based upon the posts.

Wow, does that make me the newest kid on the block?

Well, I started podcasting in June of '05 with Radio WC, but have restarted my podcasting career just last week with The Uncle Dan report.

So, technically-no-I am not the newest podcaster here, but my podcast is one of the newest.

Things have really slowed down around here. After a year I would have expected more posters to this thread.

Based upon the Yahoo podcasting group, it seems a lot of podcasters are less focused on podcasting and more on production. I know I'm seeing many more downloads from my torrents than RSS.
