Thought you all might be interested in these stats. Apparently 68% of podcast listeners consume via portable device, while 49% listen on their computers. I'm guessing the reason the numbers add up to more than 100% is due to people who do both.

Here's a news release with more info.

Pretty interesting. I tend to listen to podcasts at home on my computer. Whilst doing work, tidying up, eating dinner etc.

I must be the anomaly. I listen to 20-25 hours of podcasts a week, 95% of the time on a portable device.

That sounds like we are in the same bracket on that.

The only time I listen to a show on the computer is when I am wanting to check out a new show for its worthiness. That is usually 1 or 2 shows a month. The rest of the time it is exclusively portable. Sometimes I will be sitting at the computer with the headphones plugged in, but the noise is coming from my iPod.

I have an implant in my brain with a wireless connection to iTunes, allowing me to hear podcasts 24 hours a day.

I am so jealous.

For the record, I also listen to a TON of podcasts, and all of them from my iPod. Even new ones I tend to put on the iPod during the pre-subscription phase.

99% of my podcast listening is done via my iPod, even if I'm not subscribed and am just checking a show out I put it on my iPod. I rarely sit still long enough to listen right through a whole show on my 'puter. Occasionally I will listen to one on my PC when I am writing a review of that show.

Based on the numbers in that article I am listening to enough podcasts per month to cover for 60-70 people who aren't listening to any.

Dude, I so need one of those.

I do 99% of my listening & watching on the iPod. Right now, I have my computer speakers connected to my iPod & listening as I work on the computer. Video especially goes on the iPod. Why? Because the iPod handles video better than my 1.2 GHz iBook, plus I don't want to tie up processor cycles when they can be encoding my next episode!!! smile.gif

For the record, I do about 75% of my podcast listening on my mp3 player (I don't have an iPod ... oh the horror!)

I'm kind of in a weird situation. I pretty much exclusively listen to podcasts at work, I have a AA battery powered mp3 player and to save the battery (I only really use it to tune into FM radio), I burn the mp3s to a CD-RW to copy to my computer at work and listen to them on there.

Due to security issues we don't have wide internet access and aren't allowed to use thumb drives or hook our mp3 players to our computers but luckily my computer at work doesn't have a cd burner so I can use the a CD-RW to bring stuff. Amazing computer though, AMD 64bit Dual Core processors... to run MS Excel.

I think i'd fall into both categories, I'm listening to them at a location other than where they were downloaded, but it's still stationary.

I'm pretty sure that's Excel's minimum requirements biggrin.gif
