Yes, I don't understand why everyone is doing reviews on iTunes while ignoring the review section on the Pickle. At the very least, they should paste their iTunes reviews into the Pickle, especially if they are using the Pickle forums to discuss it.
The reason is the same reason that there have been similar threads for Frappr, and MySpace, and Yahoo (back when we thought it mattered) and pretty much every other place on the internet where you can list your podcast: Additional exposure everywhere helps your podcast, and if the community on the Pickle can help each other outside the Pickle, then that helps all of us.
The reason that iTunes reviews are being emphasized is that, like it or not, iTunes and the iTunes music store are still the primary source of traffic for most podcasters, and reviews on iTunes help your exposure there. A good rating on iTunes based on a large number of reviews can get the attention of the iTunes staff, which can lead to being featured on the front page, which can lead to a lot of traffic. So it's worth discussing here and trying to help each other out.
We can add these reviews to the Pickle as well, but, to be honest, positive reviews don't have the material effect here that they do on iTunes. If there was some incentive for me to help out a fellow podcaster by writing a review like there is for making them a favorite, then maybe I would do it. But really, to be honest, I'd only leave a 10/10 or I wouldn't leave anything at all, especially here where my name is going to be attached to it, because I wouldn't want to offend anyone, and I'm sure there are a lot of people who would say the same, so I don't know how valuable those reviews would be. Here, I really only look at how many people have listed a show as their favorite; that's more valuable to me than any review, really. I can't remember the last time I've looked at reviews here, because they're not as important to me as some of the other data on the site.
I've gotten annoyed when people start up new podcast directories and try to suck in people from the Pickle forums, but this isn't that. You can't ignore iTunes no matter how much better the Pickle may be. And if you're not going to ignore it, you may as well game the system as best you can to try to help out the good indie podcasts (which can then pimp the Pickle, BTW) rather than the reconstituted corporate crap that dominates the front page of iTunes.
