Full Version: Apple Tv. Boon For Vidcasts?

Soon, Apple TV will come out and what you can get on iTunes you can watch on your television (easily now anyway). Anyone have any thoughts on the subject?

Personally I belive it will be good for my show. I've suffered rolling eyes and finger pointing for years for having a full length movie format for the iPod. Hopefully Apple TV consumers will be wanting something a bit more meaty and will be able to relax on the couch and enjoy some B-movie goodness.

Oh by the way, new episode out today. "The bloody pit of horror" so come check it out.

I think it will push both audio and video podcasts further. Ever since I converted all of my CDs over to digital, it doesn't make a difference to me whether an album came from the store or as an Internet only download. All my music comes through iTunes so big labels and and indie artists are on the same playing field for me although the former can afford more lawyers and advertising. I plan on getting an Apple tv and once I convert all my movies to digital then all video podcasts will be just as accessible as major movies.
I have 3 little kids. Paying $300 so that my kids can browse through all their movies on iTunes is worth all of the CDs/DVDs & CD/DVD Players that they have broken so far. I just wonder how many of those little Apple remotes I will have to pull out of the toilet :-/

Rev, your movies look fine on my screen, though it is 17" diagonal smile.gif

I don't know if I'd sign up for AppleTV (apple.tv?) unless it was free. I pay enough for regular TV. If it was good enough to drop regular TV, then *maybe*, and that's only if they get BSG and Heroes.

As far as I know Apple TV is just a set top box that allows you to wirelessly stream your computer (in this case anything available on itunes) to your television. So as long as you're willing to pay for the episodes it has Heroes and BSG and such. (anything you can download or buy from iTunes)

anyone have any really good knowledge of what this puppy can do?

That won't work, because the wife, she loves 2 1/2 Men and King of Queens, and there ain't no way I'm gonna shell out hard earned cash for an episode of that swill.

AppleTV doesn't just stream, it has a hard drive that can be synced to one computer, so that just about any rich media you have stored on your computer and in an iTunes play list can be downloaded wirelessly to the AppleTV device. In addition, AppleTV also can stream from up to six computers, so anything in the proper format and in an appropriate playlist can be viewed on the AppleTV from them as well.

The AppleTV will display photos from iPhoto, play music, let you watch or listen to podcasts, watch your downloaded TV shows and movies (if you bought them, they'll have to be from iTunes), let you show your own movies, and even preview songs, or download movie trailers from Apple's website directly on the AppleTV device.

For an excellent discussion and review of AppleTV, you should check out Walt Mossberg's column. It's pretty comprehensive.
