As a long time blogger (since 1999), I was fascinated when http://www.blogtree.com/ was put online.
It allows you to register your blog, and specify which blog or blogs influenced you to start your own blog. It allows others to also claim you as a "blog parent," so you can see your own blog family tree, as well as others. I think this sort of resource would translate well to create a podcasting family tree, I would love to know who influenced the people who influenced me to start my own podcast, http://www.randomfandompodcast.com. It would also be cool to know if I influenced anyone to start their own podcast. This would be an awesome feature for podcast pickle, and would fit perfectly with the site. Would anyone be interested in participating in a Podcast Family Tree project? I don't have the programming ability to set it up myself. For an example of a blog family tree, check out the tree for my blog, eclectica: http://www.blogtree.com/blogtree.php?blogid=1039 For an example of a larger blog family tree, check out the metafilter family tree: http://www.blogtree.com/blogtree.php?blogid=32 (metafilter blog tree) For More info on how blog trees work: http://www.blogtree.com/about.php BlogTree about page -------------------- Random Fandom: A Podcast Devoted to the People and Things We Love

It sounds really cool, especially if it were displayed more graphically, like a real family tree. (Maybe not possible since there won't be direct parent-child relationships?)

Problem: Nobody inspired me. The act of listening to a podcast for the first time inspired me. "I can do this!" I thought. Then I did.

Problem: Nobody inspired me. Likewise. I had already been working on a concept for a public radio show three years before podcasting was invented. When I first read the word "Podcast" on Slashdot in September 2004, I knew this would be an easier and less expensive way to do my show. -------------------- The WildeBeat "The audio journal about getting into the wilderness"

Thanks for the replies, everyone!
WildeGeek and Planet Retcon... I'm imagining that the podcast family tree will work like the blog family tree. With the blog family tree, you do NOT have to list a blog as your inspiration. But, it's good to have your blog listed in the directory, so that, others can claim your blog as their inspiration. You can be included in the tree, even if you don't claim a "parent". -------------------- Random Fandom: A Podcast Devoted to the People and Things We Love

Just wanted to keep everyone updated on this. I'm almost done with the backend coding stuff for this, I will then proceed to design an interface which should hopefully be easy to navigate and look good.

There's also something else I'm going to throw in a suprise using the same system (although the suprise won't work until Pickle 3, I think you'll all like it. All the more reason to sign up for the beta test).
