Audacity, all the way. I use LAME to convert the wav file to mp3, and XMMS (think Winamp, but on Linux) to put the tags in.

[edit]
I just noticed this was in Vidcast Discussion. Ignore me.

I cut most of the last season with premiere 6.5 (the final version that was available for the mac) but I've just moved to final cut 4.5.

All the effects stuff and colour is done in After effects.
and i use peak for the sound.

I'm looking forward to when adobe suite goes back onto the mac, that way I can go back to premire and even use audition!

I've been using Windows Movie Maker, but I'm really not satisfied with it. (Of course, it was free, so I don't have much to complain about.)

I've been looking at perhaps purchasing Ulead VideoStudio 9, because it seems like it does just about everything I'm looking at trying but doesn't cost $600.

I used Audacity for a long time and had no problems with it until I upgraded my equipment. I ended up switching to Adobe Audition, and love it. I really enjoy the enhanced vocal processing I can do with Audition.

Of course, I posted this not realizing it was the vidcast board.... Doh!

Christiana, if you would like to continue using Movie Maker, but change the output format, you could use SUPER, from eRightSoft, which is a FREE universal converter.

QUOTE
SUPER © Simplified Universal Player Encoder & Renderer.
A GUI to ffmpeg, mencoder, mplayer, x264, mppenc,
ffmpeg2theora & the theora/vorbis RealProducer plugIn.

If you need a simple, yet very efficient tool to convert (encode) or play any Multimedia file, without reading manuals or spending long hours training, then SUPER © is all you need.
It is a Multimedia Encoder and a Multimedia Player, easy-to-use with 1 simple click.

That way you can continue to use something FREE that you are used to, without compromising on output options.

I use Premier Pro 1.5 and Adobe Aftereffects 6.5 I use MovieMaker for some credits sometimes as they have a bunch of preanimated ones that are easy and fast to make.

I've only done one video so far and I used Pinnacle Studio. I really like it but that is because I have been using it for years and don't like change:) It seems to do everything I need it to.

Here is the music video I did http://media.libsyn.com/media/mymarilyn/MMV-04-08-06.mp4

I'm only recently getting into the vidcasting scene, but I'm using Adobe Premiere Elements as the edit software.

One day I'll upgrade to the pro version but the HD camera comes first. (Almost there!!! biggrin.gif )

No vidcast, but this is what we do to format the family movies - edit in iMovie and export the digital video file for later DVD burning. Open the DV file in Quicktime Pro and Export for iPod.

I haven't tried those files as a vidcast yet, but I imagine that would be the right format.

Except for exporting for DVD burning (As you wouldn't need that process unless you want an external backup as opposed to storing it online somewhere), yes it would.

Cheers smile.gif

I don't understand. Are you suggesting you want to learn all three packages or run all three for differant tasks. I suggest just using one. Personally i use after effects which is more than enough, the other packages do much else extra.

well yes i want to run all two, programs, shake is part of the final cut family. there is a few composites i want to do here and there and shake can do it cleanly. /motion is just for .. kinda working everything out roughly. sometimes

adobe can go quick and dirty. but im more a fan of the way it works then the program and i hate keyframing in adobe. there is a certain look that is easy to put together in adobe that i like.

i know its not all about the effects but the things i have in my mind. if you do effects right, for certain things you wont even notices the effect if its done right.

plus i have to use most of those programs, for my production work anyway so i know motion and adobe. joys of being a film major and having a decent lab.

I just upgraded to ULead Video Studio 10 Plus which has iPod and PSP format support*. I also use TMPGENC and Cool Edit to tweak audio in clips. Mainly, I'm using VS10 for titles, effects and exporting.

* - I mentioned this feature, although my limited experience with it suggests I'm better off exporting as a different format and then converting in Videora iPod Converter. I seemed to lose sync all over the place exporting to mp4 from VS10.
