<description><![CDATA[<p>The Manic Mommies are joined by Amy Corda, a friend whose daughter  was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, a disease "where the body  does not  produce insulin, a hormone that is needed to convert   sugar, starches  and other food into energy needed for daily life." (<a href="http://www.diabetes.org/">ADA</a>)</p>
<p>According to the American Diabetes Association only 5-10% of people  with diabetes have type 1 (formerly known as juvenile diabetes)  which is usually diagnosed in children and teenagers. "With&nbsp;the help of  insulin therapy and&nbsp;other treatments,&nbsp;even young children&nbsp;with type 1   diabetes can learn to manage their condition and live long, healthy,   happy lives."</p>

Heather was recently selected by <em>Parenting</em> as one of 51  outstanding mom education advocates from across the country to attend  the first annual Mom Congress conference, where she worked on creating <em>Parenting&#8217;s </em>"Lesson Plan for Change", a guide to empowering parents to get more   involved in their children&#8217;s education that will appear in the October   issue of <em>Parenting</em> School Years."</p>]]></description>
