Old Time Radio Nostalgia

Astronauts (Lloyd Bridges, Osa Massen, John Emery, Noah Beery, Jr., and Hugh O’Brien) blast off to explore the moon on. Because of craft malfunction and some fuel calculations, they end up landing on Mars. On Mars, evidence of a once powerful civilization is found. The scientists determinted that an atomic war destroyed most of the Martians (Who suprsingly look like humans). Those that survived reverted to a caveman like existance.

Welcome Home Elvis was a 1960 television special on ABC starring Frank Sinatra and featuring Elvis Presley in his first televised appearance since coming home from his military service in Germany. The special was officially titled It’s Nice to Go Traveling, but is more commonly known as Welcome Home Elvis having featured Elvis on his first TV appearance in three years. This was also Frank Sinatra’s fourth and final television special that he did for sponsor Timex.

The special also featured Sammy Davis Jr., Joey Bishop, Peter Lawford, and Nancy Sinatra, who later starred with Elvis in his 1968 film Speedway.

Elvis performed Fame and Fortune and Stuck on You, which were the two sides of his first post-Army single. He also performed a duet with Sinatra. Elvis performed Sinatra’s classic Witchcraft while Frank performed the Elvis classic "Love Me Tender". None of these performances were released on record until the 1980s. Presley also sang a verse during the opening production number, "It’s Nice to Go Traveling", which has yet to be commercially released.

Joe Williams was the last great big-band singer, a smooth baritone who graced the rejuvenated Count Basie Orchestra during the 1950s and captivated audiences well into the ’90s. Born in Georgia, he moved to Chicago with his grandmother at the age of three. Reunited with his mother, she taught him to play the piano and took him to the symphony. Though tuberculosis slowed him down as a teenager, Williams began performing at social events and formed his own gospel vocal quartet, the Jubilee Boys.

The finest radio drama of the 1930’s was The Mercury Theatre on the Air, a show featuring the acclaimed New York drama company founded by Orson Welles and John Houseman. In its brief run, it featured an impressive array of talents, including Agnes Moorehead, Bernard Herrmann, and George Coulouris. The show is famous for its notorious War of the Worlds broadcast, but the other shows in the series are relatively unknown. This site has many of the surviving shows, and will eventually have all of them.

The Life of Riley TV show was a 30 minute comedy series on NBC about a blue collar guy who worked in an aircraft plant as a wing riviter. The series mostly showcased his activities at home with family and friends. The typical storyline involved Riley having some minor problem and then taking some action to correct it that ended out making matters much, much worse.

Wyatt Earp. The TV show followed some elements of his life, but was liberal with the details.
This Wyatt starts out in Ellsworth, Kansas. It is here that Ned Buntline gives him the oversized weapon, a .45 with an extra long barrel. Called a "Buntline special" it packs a heck of a wallop and gave the Marshal the extra range to drop bad guys, of which there was a never ending supply.
By the second season, Wyatt moves on to Dodge City. Yes, I know that Matt Dillon was marshal in Dodge on Gunsmoke But that was Saturday night and this was Tuesday and besides it’s TV. So live with it.
By 1959, Wyatt moved again to Tombstone. You just had to figure, sooner or later, he’d get to Tombstone and the O.K. Corral. In a five part series finale, Wyatt’s brothers Morgan and Virgil, along with Doc Holliday, succeed in dropping the Clanton Gang in the gunfight at the O.K. Corral.

The television version of the program,produced by MCA-TV/Revue was broadcast every Sunday evening at 9:00pm, EST, beginning February 1, 1953 and ending May 27, 1962. Each of the estimated 209[1] television episodes was an adaptation of a novel, short story, play, film, or magazine fiction.

Ronald Reagan became the show’s only host on September 26, 1954. GE added a host to provide continuity, which was absent due to its anthology format. After four months, the show reached the Top Ten in the Nielsen ratings. [citation needed] It also regularly outrated I Love Lucy in the 9:00-9:30pm time slot.[citation needed]

The show made the already well-known Reagan, who had appeared in many films as a "second lead" throughout his career, wealthy, due to his part ownership of the show. After eight years as host, Reagan estimated he had visited 135 GE research and manufacturing facilities, and met over a quarter-million people. During that time he would also speak at other forums such as Rotary clubs and Moose lodges, presenting views on economic progress that in form and content were often similar to what he said in introductions, segues and closing comments on the show as a spokesman for GE. Reagan, who would later be known as "The Great Communicator" due to his oratorical prowess, often credited these engagements as helping him develop his public speaking abilities.

A comedic Radio program that ran from 1935 to 1959 in one form or another. The stars of the program were the real life husband-and-wife team of Jim and Marion Jordan, who took characters honed in earlier vaudeville and radio work and combined them with a Midwestern small town setting to create an iconic radio program. Fibber and Molly McGee lived at 79 Wistful Vista in a town also named Wistful Vista. Fibber had no actual job, and spent much of his time on get-rich-quick schemes which never panned out. And yet somehow the McGees never seemed to actually run out of money and lived quite comfortably, even being able to afford a housekeeper for a while. Each week Fibber would try out a new Zany Scheme or try to do some simple task, interrupted by people dropping in at the house or stopping him and Molly on the street. And to break up the gags, there would be one or more musical interludes.
