As you have all noticed by now, we are simply not managing to get together to put out any new episodes. It has been a difficult decision, but we will be closing the podcast feed for good. The podcast feed will remain online for the next month, so if you have any episodes that you would like to get, get ’em while you can.

In the meantime, we would like to thank all of our listeners for tuning in and participating in our conversations. We have met some great people during our time podcasting. Some even went on to start their own podcasts. What more can anyone wish for?

Holy bikini shorts Batman! We are back with a new podcact. Nothing like a geeky summer blockbuster of a movie to get us in gear. (If you are keeping track of the numbers, you’ll notice that #58 is missing. We have one in the can but it still needs to be editted and since we wanted this one out right away, we didn’t think you guys would mind the confusion. The Joker gave us his blessing.)

Spoilers abound all over this podcast so if you don’t want to be spoiled, I’d hold onto this one until you make it to the theatre. Just a warnin’.

Quick Explanation on the Recent Hiatus

Hi everyone. Chris here to explain a little bit about the recent, unexpected hiatus. As most of you know, I am working and studying for my PhD at the same time. This takes up a serious amount of time. Of late though, I have had to try to finish the work that I have left for my PhD and see about graduating, lest someone steals my data and I lose all chances of ever finishing my grad studies. So please excuse our lack of updates. We should be back though mid-June, hope to see you all then.

Just on the off chance one of you hasn’t given up on us, we’re sorry to say that it doesn’t look we are going to get our act together concerning the podcast. We are pulling the plug.

We loved doing it and we miss it, especially the people we got to meet because of the podcast. Between family, work, various charities, somebody’s movie addiction, home, global warming, computer woes and the hotness of Christian Bale, the podcast sort of got lost on our priority lists.

We would like to take a moment to say a few things:

We had a split vote on Singularity. One of us liked it and one of us didn’t. We’ll let you guess which was which. But you should check it out if you like your science fiction sciencey and just check out PodioBooks.com in general. (Currently listening to In Search of #6 by Damon Timm; would highly recommend but it isn’t sci-fi or fantasy.)
If you are not watching Stargate Atlantis, you really should be. And we also like the new shows Reaper and Chuck (’cause it has Adam Baldwin!!! and it is funny too.)

This one is going to sound a bit different because we recorded it live at the Owl’s Nest Bookstore in Fredericton, New Brunswick. The Owl’s Nest is the largest used bookstore in New Brunswick and you definitely need to stop in if you are in the area. It is speculated that every book ever written is in that store, you just have to know how to find it. Today we are discussing Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. So we get to revisit our old friends Captain Jack, Will, Elizabeth, and Captain Barbossa and talk about what we liked and what we didn’t.

Doctor Who in Canada

Just on the off chance you are Canadian and a Doctor Who fan and might not already know this, CBC is playing the Christmas Special "The Runaway Bride" Monday night (June 11th). Sort of a Christmas in June type of thing. And the Monday after that, June 18th, they are going to start airing series three, the ones with the new Companion, Martha. Yay!

In an unrelated note, they airred the Spaceys tonight and guess who won Viewer Fave TV Character.... hehe "In your face, Jack Bauer!" Take a listen to podcast #51 if you want to know who we were hoping to win.

Yeah, I know that this is really, really late but when your parents come to visit, you can’t tell them to go away because you have a podcast to edit. I may be an awful daughter but even I’m not that bad. And if it makes you feel better, I’m missing Heroes as punishment.

But we are here to talk about all the great movies that are out there this summer and which ones we are really looking forward to reviewing for the show. Basically, we still don’t really know but we would like your input. If you have an opinion on what you would like us to talk about, send them on in. Or if you think that the idea of a monthly round-up show at the end of the month is the way to go, let us know that too. We NEED all the help we can get.

It is our favourite time of year folks and I’m sure you are asking yourself what has taken us so long to get this one to you. Something this important, something this monumental, deserves care and consideration... and my computer decided to enforce its disk size as non-negotiable and forced me to do some spring cleaning before I could even start editing but that is completely beside the point.

We are here to celebrate the Spaceys. The Spaceys are the awards given by the Canadian Space channel for excellence in sci-fi entertainment. They have a selection of awards that are voter based and if you visit their website, you too can have your say on fun categories like "Favourite Kick-Ass Character" or "Fave Character You Love to Hate". This week we were lazy and decided to give you a piece of our world. A demonstration, if you will, of the way we converse on an everyday basis. It is very random and we have no idea what will come up... Well, I do but then, I just spent the last couple of hours editing it. We will leave it up to you to discover.

Hey guys, we are back! Thanks for the understanding, it was greatly appreciated but we are here tonight to talk about two new comics that can be found on your favourite comic book stand. If you don’t have a favourite comic shop, you should give ComicHunter.net a try. They are awesome.

This week, we have New Universal by Warren Ellis from Marvel comics and Scalped by Jason Aaron from Vertigo. Two very different reads and two split decisions. Hey there folks, come sit around for another edition of our extra special bookclub. This week we discuss Jim Butcher’s Storm Front, which is the first book of the Dresden Files series. Harry Dresden is a private investigator and his major selling point is that he is also a wizard. Basically, we got mystery and the supernatural, what is not to love? Then throw in the new series that practically just premiered on the SciFi channel (Space if you are Canadian) and we are positively buzzed with glee.

Yeah, sure... this week we visit Neptune to discuss the most talked about question on everyone’s mind: Will Veronica and Logan ever work out their problems and live happily ever after? Ok, perhaps that isn’t one everyone’s mind and perhaps that isn’t exactly what we talk about but I’m sure it must have come up somewhere along the line. Mostly, we just have a few laughs concerning what has been happening this season so take that as a warning to anyone who doesn’t want to be spoiled.

Nah-nah! I betcha you thought this was going to be a Hitchhiker’s episode. Sorry, that would have been too predictable and would go against all directives provided by the Infinite Improbability Drive.

Instead, for the first show of 2007, we are starting a new comic review series. Our good friends at ComicHunter.net have been kind enough to provide us with some #1s. First up is Crossing Midnight (by Mike Carey) and Sandman Mystery Theatre: Sleep of Reason (by Jim Ney Rieber), both from Vertigo Comics. Two interesting reads and you will have to listen to see what we thought of them.

This was going to be a post stating that there wasn’t going to be a show this week... but I couldn’t do it so you get an outtakes episode instead. Chris and I were unable to get our schedules to mesh so no recording time was to be had. But when I sat down to write that, I thought that we had to post something for New Years. It wasn’t right otherwise.

So here you go, something pretty simple and quick and I had a lot of fun putting it together. You will have to let us know if you really hate what I do here. No feedback or promos this week, those will be saved for next week.

Hey everyone... we were late again but I’m blaming the malls for this one. Not enough hours in the day, trying to get ready for Christmas, and battling evil on top of it, what is a girl to do? But we have a lot of fun this week, by getting into a little bit of everything. Heroes, Doctor Who, Torchwood, favourite childhood toys, The Simpsons, Antarctica, etc, etc... We were thinking that it’s about time we spent some quality time with our favorite british superhero, Doctor Who. Basically, we the need to discuss what we think of the second season so far (up to episode 7, "Idiot’s Lantern" in Canada), Eccleston vs. Tennant, Rose, Mickey, favorite bad guys... the whole ball ’n wax. So if you haven’t seen up to "Idiot’s Lantern", you might want to skip or risk being spoiled.

Hello folks!

I’m sorry to say that our regularly scheduled podcast will be delayed for a day. The Doctor is being most difficult. But that doesn’t mean that you won’t get your fix of our shtick. We did a little guest appearance on Fanboy Smackdown and you should check it out. We reviewed the movie Casino Royale and had some fun with the world of James Bond.

#36 - D is for Dream House Barbie...

I know that the title is a little scary but please don’t be frightened because of it. We are not that girly, even if we tried. But we do discuss our ideal dream houses and what we really, really want. If Chris goes with plan A, she will get geek-karma points for a lifetime.

We discuss our forums, which can be found at the easy to remember forum.sofadogs.com, and we are doing a guest spot at Fanboy Smackdown next week (targeted release date Thursday, Nov. 30th). It’s magic time, folks, as we review The Illusionist and The Prestige, this year’s two Hollywood magic movies. The Illusionist, directed by Neil Burger, stars Ed Norton, Paul Giamatti, and Jessica Biel. The Prestige, directed by Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins and my personal favourite Memento), stars Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Michael Cain, Scarlett Johansson, and a very special appearance by David Bowie and Andy Serkis. What more could you ask for?

Promo played was for The Survival Guide to Writing Fantasy and the guys behind the Fanboy Smackdown podcast were wonderful enough to provide us with a funny new bumper. Thanks guys! Also, thanks to Aser, Dani, and Henk for the feedback.

We are hitting the books again folks and this time we come through with our threat to discuss Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. Those two are gods among the fantasy genre and we take a minute or two to discuss their masterpiece of collaboration. Thanks to Grahame and Curnir for the emails and Bob for the voicemail.

Our next selection is Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. And for the whole multimedia experience, this will include the book, the miniseries, and the comics if you got’em. So you have eight weeks to find the media type of your choice.

This week, we were bad and didn’t feel quite prepared to discuss Good Omens. So instead of doing an appalling job of it, we decided to just do an off-the-cuff show about anything and everything.

Hey boys and girls,

Tony from the Fanboy Smackdown Podcast here. Chris and Eliz... well... we all know that they are taking a much deserved break. What most of you don’t know is that the girls asked Tony and I to watch over the studio whilst they were lounging and eating Bon Bons. (Because, honestly... work? move? Do we really believe that?)

So we spent a few days making sure that their lingerie drawers were secure from any intruders, all of the porn on their hard drives was backed up, and that all of the beer purchased more than a week ago was properly disposed of.

So... by Saturday morning we were hungover and hungry. So we grabbed the iRiver and headed out to a diner to record a podcast.

I was also able to hack into their email and pull out some feedback from the past few shows. We threw our own promo in between the feedback. We’re promotion whores that way.

Instructions for the appreciation podcast episode

Hi everyone, Chris here. We thought it might be a good idea to post instructions for appreciation show submissions. Well you know, in case you were interested in submitting something for us. Which we hope you are. In any case, here is what we are hoping you will do:

1. Send us an email or voicemail or leave a comment on the board (why not put it in this post even?) in which you tell us: how you found Two Girls and a Podcast, which episode you first listened to (if you can remember) and what made you decide to stick around.

-or-

2. Send us a bumper for the show. Basically the best would be an audio clip like you would send "This is [your name here], and you are listening to Two Girls and a Podcast" or some such variation.

-or-

3. Send a "This week is brought to you by the letter" and pick a letter.

Please note that you can do any of the 3 options or if you want, you can do all of them. (Personally I am hoping for a lot of 1 and 2). Another important note, these are only guidelines to give you ideas of what to send in. Please feel free to send us anything you want.

Sorry folks but our episode #17, which is a love fest of all things Harry Potter (just kidding!) is going to be a little late this week. Both Chris and I have have been travelling and we somehow recorded twice (literally) the amount for one typical episode. So, all factors considered, it has been a challenging week to get this puppy edited up.

Here is our "short" show about summer and what makes it special for us: swimming, camping (in an indoor camp sort of camping), drinking, and all that jazz. Plus, as an added bonus, you get to hear a few of the things we don’t like about it: like our inability to tan.

This week we discuss the state of world affairs ... or actually the state of television. We are a little down about it because we found out the date of the Canadian premier of the second season of Doctor Who. I guess we can blame this podcast on the Doctor; he has broad shoulders, he can take it. Or the CBC but we are not sure about the state of its shoulders. We get into why we havenât turned the tv on in over a week and other little fun stuff.

Welcome to the inaugural meeting of our cozy little book club where we discuss Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the greatest book of our time! Well, a highly entertaining one at least. We discuss our favorite parts, compare it to the various movies that have tried to do the book justice and our attempts to recast a few of the characters. Nothing too heavy.

Next up, Harry Potter and the Philospher Stone (Sorcerer’s Stone for those in the US) by JK Rowling and recommended by our favorite chef, Johane. Remember, we are looking for suggestions for our next pick so don’t forget to send them in.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain...those darn peeping toms... Just kidding. Today we talk about the magic behind the world of podcasting but mostly just in a general sort of way. If you want techno-speak, you will have to go somewhere else. But, we do get into how we create our podcasts, podcatchers, podcast directories and some of the podcasts we love. Who do we love? Pottercast, The Radio Adventures of Dr. Floyd, Quirky Nomads, Cinecast, The Bitterest Pill, Canadian Podcast Buffet, Mugglecast, Slice of Sci-Fi, Downshiftme, but they are all good.
