<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

You thought we had forgotten about Series 4, didn’t you?;

Well, never fear. We were just waiting for this particular anniversary to roll around... ummm... which anniversary you say? Umm....;

The 2nd anniversary of the morning RTD said "Hey, do any of you lovely boys want to go on a MARVELLOUS trip to Rome?";

And so The Fires of Pompeii was born! A story with psychics, revelations and... fire, it’s the obligatory historical (yet not historical) story for this season.;

Trevor, Tony and Geoff (with David sniggering and sleeping in the background) take you through this, the first of two commentaries for stories from this last full season for the 10th Doctor, David Tennant.;

The Fires of Pompeii - I mean with a name like Pyrovores where else are they going to be?

MMM Commentary for Ironman

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

When Iron Man hit the screens in 2008, he was a lesser known super hero who had not enjoyed neither a cinema career before hand nor a legendary origin talent nor been upstaged by an adversary played by Jack Nicholson ( "I told you...thirty million PLUS the toy concession or I don’t come Monday!"). In short, as far as cinema heroes, Mr Man was a bit of a cleanskin ( no pun);

In the opinion of MMM, that was a distinct advantage. ;

The full MMM panel covers this bed wettingly popular film that impressed the hell out of millions who had never heard the ’pepper"potts joke before. Robert Downey Jr is on fire, pretty hard with all that scotch in you, and Messrs Favreau, Bridges and Mrs Martin are also doing a great job in this very fresh take on the man who becomes a marauding machine. Learn about Iron’s comic book origins, spot the three forgettable uses of the old TV theme tune and see if you agree that the Stan Lee cameos are reaching thier use by date. Naturally, it all gets a bit egghead at times with the old classics like "surrogate father figure", "a post 9/11 view of the world’ and "a hero needs friends". On the other hand, there’s plenty of talk about Back In Black, boozing it up and, of course, pole dancing hostesses. ;

Tune in as MMM discusses Iron Man : The Hedonists Redemption ;

Iron Man: Icarus he ain’t but the robot hands are cute.

MMM Commentary for Doctor Who - The Curse of Fenric (movie version)

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

MMM continues the trip down Sylvester lane with our second movie-length opus - Curse of Fenric. Similar to Battlefield - which means it has another mustachioed military figure, lots of continuity and of course a sighting of Pepsi The Dog. ;

Fenric was much admired and analysed on release and many years later the boys analyse what it all meant, where it was all going and was the "risque" sex scene really worth it? ( a second hand isn’t that fast anyway - maybe that’s the point!);

We really like a lot of this era and Fenric is a particular favourite - but real rain still looks better than the old garden hose. ;

The Curse of Fenric - toxic waste ain’t nice.

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

MMM is back, big and strong, ready to deliver on its original charter - to deliver alternate commentaries for TV and film that doesn’t have one!;

Now quite often the Doctor Who releases have commentaries - but we found a loophole! The movie version of Battlefield doesn’t have one! So to redress the perception out there that we hate McCoy, have a listen to our commentary for the movie version of Battlefield and see what we think of the question-marked umbrella guy.

MMM Commentary for Doctor Who - Terror of the Zygons - Part 3

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

MMM wraps up Terror of the Zygons with a visit to the World Energy Conference. The final two episodes of the Scottish (tele)play are here. With the Skaresan unleashed and the Zygons’ identity exposed, all roads lead to Forgill castle with its menacing library steps. But in a swift one-two-three the Doctor disposes of the Zygons, Broton and the Monster before you can say "the PM is a woman". MMM has a great time wrapping up a great story that attracts equal comment for its nostalgia value and its very dubious creature. Plenty of off colour remarks about dog skulls, laxative Army chocolate and famous gillies. Join us for the story that closed one door and opened another.

MMM Commentary for Doctor Who - Terror of the Zygons - Part 1

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

Warm yourself by a roaring porridge while you watch the opening two episodes of Terror of the Zygons. Enjoy the Dr Who production teams effort to cram every possible cod Scottish cliche into one story. ;

In 1975, Zygons represented a changing of the guard as the Letts UNIT family gave way to the Hinchcliffe "family" which consisted of rotting monsters attacking you with pitchforks. In Terror of the Zygons UNIT gets a last hurrah ( for now) while spooky music, horrific creatures, Gothic houses and realistic violence crashes across the screen like a spider in concrete boots.;

Certain MMM members make no secret of their conviction that these changes were for the best and the Terror of the Zygons ushers in a great, and gory , new era.;

MMM discusses the nature of the Zygon costumes ( what do they remind YOU of?), the very scary nurse and the invisible "Invisible TARDIS " scene. Plus lots of discussion of John Woodnutt, Douglas Camfield and a certain Goodies episode set in a country near Scotland. Download and enjoy.;

Terror of the Zygons - no one says Macbeth

The MMM Terror-vision begins with the Jon Pertwee plastic classic - Terror of the Autons.;

Part 1 of this exciting four part story is released today, with Part 2 being available early next week.;

Way back in 1971, Barry Letts rescued our beloved show from certain cancellation and worked to make the new season more family friendly. This was achieved by including lots of murders, killer policemen, a lead character who looked like Satan and a story so violent it was questioned in the House of Lords. Some family - unless it was the Mansons.;

MMM are proud to present the first two episodes of one of the most controversial stories of all time that features suffocation, asphyxiation, elevation and maybe even castration. And we haven’t even got to the CSO. ;

Tony, Trev, David and Geoff return to the 70s and cover such vital issues as Katy Manning’s rings, the Doctor’s mysterious stair case and boiled eggs. We ask the vital questions such as "How easy is it to punch out Mike Yates"?" What is Roger Delgado’s real name?" and "Would you cook in a CSO kitchen"? ;

Tune in soon for the exciting daffodil enriched finale

MMM Commentary for West Wing - The 25th

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

It is the last West Wing commentary for now and by the end of Season Four we were without Sorkin, Sam and nearly the White House after the events of the THE 25th.;

As he predicted four years ago, Bartlet endures the horror of his daughter’s kidnapping. ;

While the White House deals with the crisis, Toby faces the arrival of his children with a grimness only he can muster ( not just about thier names) and the President faces the dilemma the only way he can - by standing down in favour of Roseanne’s husband! ;

The most dramatic series cliffhanger so far, the show has MMM discussing the legality of Leo’s role, the way fathers are depicted on TV and the dramatic possibilities for Season Five ( most not taken up) . Plus Tony worries whether Emilio Estevez was paid for a flashback scene, Trev names his surprise favourite character and David considers whether there isn’t an obvious kidnapping suspect everyone is overlooking.;

The West Wing - good enough for Taye Diggs

MMM Commentary for West Wing - US Poet Laureate

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

Otherwise known as the Laura Dern one. If you hadn’t noticed, the West Wing was never exactly a yuk-fest but this third series episode was more light-hearted than most without cranking up a laugh track.;

On the campaign trail, an off-mike quip by the President about his opponent’s brain size seems to do more good than harm. Toby’s heart ( and frown) is a-racing when he must dissuade the Poet Laureate from speaking out about landmines and Josh makes the error of contributing to a fan-based website! Horrors! ;

The MMM team tackles Season Three and key issues like Toby’s seduction technique ( such as it is) life in the aluminum siding business and whether it is a good idea to have a President who is Barbra Steisand’s husband ( Crime.. gee I don’t know) Plus, how important is intellect to leadership? Should artists comment on politics and just how crazy are people on the Net? We said it was light but there is a lot to see in this story- the only one to feature two Jurassic Park stars.;

The West Wing - stop blaming Sam

In the chaos after Rosslyn, the President is down but so is Josh. As the Joint Chiefs contemplate a possible attack by a man called bin Laden, the staff recall how they first came together on the campaign trail when things weren’t too hot and Bartlet speeches came with free jelly. Meanwhile, the President hasn’t signed a note for the VP and his latent health problems may come out...;

See how you think the President looks in a hospital gown and catheter. The Mandyville legend begins and the WW does the first of many way back when tales. MMM looks at the 25th Amendment as only three Australians can and examines the epiphanies of three characters.;

And Jane Lynch is in it. ;

The West Wing - you will NEVER forget to sign a note

Halfway through Season One and the Bartlet presidency is, to quote Sam Seaborn, "nowhere".;

The President’s inertia has led to a "let’s dangle our feet" mentality that has the team taking on several major issues (gays in the military, electoral contributions ) knowing there isn’t a shot in the chamber. ;

With that dreaded nemesis, "the piece of paper" floating around and a major drop in the polls, it is time for Leo to have it out with the President.;

MMM returns to the West Wing with the first of four Sorkin-era commentaries. Join Trev, Tony and David as they discuss the causes of the President’s plight, what it has to do with THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT and just HOW do you spell his name. We also cover why Mandy left the show via becoming Donna and what it all has to do with Battlestar Galactica

MMM Commentary for Star Wars - Clone Wars Volume 1

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

After a few quiet years, 2008 was the time when Star Wars became once more ahem animated In recognition of the Clone Wars film ( is it a film? ) and TV show MMM turns its eyes to a long time ago in an animation studio far far away: the original Clone Wars (gee that name turns up a lot) series for the Cartoon Network.;

In three to five minute bites, the check-shirted One and his acolytes filled in the blanks on the attritic war between the Republic and the Separatists when Anakin wasn’t such a bad guy, IG-88 was still a steel sapling and Obi-Wan was trying out the latest in armour-cape combinations.;

Being an MMM Star Wars commentary there is plenty of discussion of the nature of the animation, the hero’s story arc and the logistical importance of the Clone Wars story line. Of course there’s time for topics like: Who does Dooku root for in battle? Why don’t the Jedi just push planets into the Sun and is it racist that the most dangerous jobs always fall to Mace.;

Another year, another Star Wars project. Join us.

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

Warning - this commentary does contain some inappropriate language. The film itself also is an R Rated film in many countries.;

After a mysterious three months MMM completes the Vanity Projects with Trev’s cobalt gem - Michael Mann’s Heat.;

Since 1995, Trev has seen this azure masterpiece an obscene number of times and even wanted to call one of his children Waingro.;

This makes him the perfect guide to the 160+ minute journey through the underworld of LA as two cinematic heavyweights try to act each other off the strontium tinted screen.;

Join Trev and the MMM team as they wax rhapsodic about how Mann avoids the usual
cop film cliches, assembles a stellar cast and discharges weapons in the steets with gay abandon. The MMM team wrestles with conundra such as : why is Amy Brenneman talking in that accent? how great is the diner scene really? when did Trejo (Machete) go traitor and of course the old stand-by the homo-erotic subtext ( oh-er) .Trev also tells you about the original TV-version LA Takedown and how much made its way into the film version.;

The upshot was Geoff, Tony, Gecko anf David all agreed with Trev that it was a bloody good film. See if you agree.

MMM takes you under the thermocline for Hunt For Red October - Geoff’s project de jour.;

By 1990 Tom Clancy novels were selling by the truckload and millions of fans awaited each one.;

Geoff was not one of those people...but he became one after this film. Since MMM began the card playing one has pestered us to tackle this primal entry in the techno-thriller subgenre ( also called the Sean Connery submarine one) Join us as Geoff finally gets his wish.;

We reveal who was meant to play Ramius , why the cast kept getting seasick on dry land and David and Geoff get into it over the best way to knock on a submarine. If you like your films full of translation conventions, multicoloured subs, future Presidents and lots of beets, this is the commentary for you. MMM presents Hunt For Red October - join us someplace deep! ;

Someplace deep! ( PS Contains gratuitous Nanny, Next Gen and Moriarty cameos);

And be back next time for the next (and last!) Vanity Project... what will it be?

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

It was night and we were wearng sunglasses. Truth is, as a cult website it would be remiss of MMM to ignore one of the most mainstream cult hits of all time: car chases, pile ups, Minnie the Moocher and cameos
galore all backed up by Chicago locations in AD 1980 ( ie after Daley). MMM changes tack and turns up the volume as we go back to the days when John Belushi and John Landis ruled the cinema and where Carrie Fisher was that chick from Star Wars. Learn about the third Blues Brother, the invisible band member and how they did that mall scene. And if you think you spotted Steven Spielberg at the the finale, hang on for one more guest appearnace over the closing credits. MMM takes a ride in the Bluesmobile 25th anniversay version And remember, we’ve like BOTH kinds of music... And be back next time for the next Vanity Project... what will it be?

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

MMM grows up and branches out into the much sizzled Vanity Projects. Each month one of the team brings you a pearl from their past, a favourite film from their trove. Tony starts the eyes rolling with the original Planet of the Apes.;

As a life long fan of simian sci-fi Tony is in a unique position to comment not only on this film but the entire Ape phenomena that preceded the Star Wars craze of the 70s. With a little help from the rest of the team , Tony takes you through the transition from Pierre Boulle’s French monkey novel to the silver screen. Find out how the oringial concept was altered, especially when Twlight Zone creator Rod Serling became involved, see why Fox thought no one would go to see it, and who were original choices to play the Apes? See how the turbulent events of the late 60s made it into the film and what different endings were tossed around before the one we have damned us all to hell. Plus of course the usual MMM blather about Heston’s loin cloth and possible roles for Stan Lee. Join Tony and the rest for MMM’s visit to a madhouse (a madhouse!).;

And be back next time for the next Vanity Project... what will it be?

The final chapter of the Blakes Seven fourplay with an episode that , big surprise, features the title charcter. With their rebel alliance in tatters ,like everything in else in series four, Avon plays the last card up his gauntletted sleeve - the location of the legendary Blake.;

Trouble is Blake seems to have gone a little Boba Fett, and is hunting down people for the Federation. Is he having a senior moment or has his cheese fallen off the cracker ( to quote tony) Whatever, the consequences are cataclysmic and as Blakes Seven reaches its titanic conclusion tv sci-fi will never be the same. ;

MMM revisit this epochal episode. Find out why Blake has an eye problem. Why does Scorpio bite the dust? Was this really meant to be IT? <itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

Trev’s greatest hour, or one of them came with this senational climax to the third
season of Blake’s Seven. End of season cliffhangers had become part and parcel of the show but this is the story that really shook the fans up. Trev was one of those fans and he still shakes today ( but that may be the vertical hold).;

When Avon takes the Liberator to a secret the location the rest of the crew are puzzled and suspicious. But his final goal shocked everyone. Meanwhile an apparently innoucuous space cloud brings a threat that takes the greatest casualty so far. And what has it all to do with Servelan?;

MMM follows Trev down memory lane with this return to the land of the Links.;

Find out what was in the wind for Servelan and Avon in the future. See if you agree with the team’s description of Avon’s "fatal flaw" and look for 2001 rip offs.;

All this plus paint guns, carbonite and enigmamtic smiles in the latest chapter of our

his goal conceals the greatest secret of all - one that will end the Liberator crew’s unity and maybe the galaxy. ;

What does this have to do with Daleks you ask? And what happens to Gareth Thomas and Sally Knyvette? ;

Find out at MMM as some talk. some text and some rate the two Travis’.

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

MMM returns to the world of Blake’s Seven with the first part of the Blake ahem fourplay. In the 70s and early 80s story arcs were still fairly rare in tv sci-fi but Terry Nation and co were there with thier unfolding sagas and end of year cliffhangers. In ORAC, the disparate Liberator crew find themselves heading to the water planet Aristo( somewhere in the North Sea it looks like) in search of the animal-vegetable-mineral known as ORAC.;

Unfortunately Servelan and Travis ( well his feet anyway) are on the same path with the world’s vaguest map. To make matters worse , the crew have come down with radiation poisoning and the ship is about to get a very dire prediction...;

Join MMM for this 50-minute milestone in drama and amphibians. Find out what ORAC was MEANT to be, why we only see Travis’ nether regions for the second half.and solve Tony’s conundrum : why weren’t Blake’s crew doing the bad thing?

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

This wasn’t even the title. The only title change in Bond history brought about due to poor hearing! MMM finally tackles the "Bond as a Son of Erin" era- Pierce Wilburforce Brosnan in his second ( and third last ) 1997 outing. Titbits of deathless trivia included here - Q’s close encounter with a jaguar, what Pierce’s face had to do with Terri Hatcher’s bulge, the forgotten Hong Kong handover and whether a henchman with misplaced pleasure centres isn’t scaping the bottom of the barrel. ;

Brosnan’s melencholy Bond is discussed as is the preference for fisticuffs overall martial arts.;

And we even got the cunning-linguist joke, well most of us.
By the mid-60s the Sean Connery show was winding down in the Bond universe...;

but there was time enough to live twice. Ian Fleming’s unfilmable novel was finally filmed and the rest is history.;

MMM gives YOLT the treatment: is You Only Live Twice it just a weak Austin Powers prequel? Or was it the old coffin polishing milkman at his most majestic?;

Which Bond gadget drove David’s family into apoplexy? What is up with Blofoeld’s panciky cat? And how did Santa Claus nearly end up a Bond villian? The controversy of an Asian Bond ( Scottish burr and all), a quick glance at a masterful Doctor Who star and a missing foot are all good reasons to download the MMM commentary before the neighbours do ...

Their mission clears the way for Commander Cain to lead a suicide attack against three Cylon base stars commanded by Baltar.

Join the MMM team of Trevor, Tony and David as we forge on with our other-wordly mission.

Don’t foget it is now par for the course at MMM to include a small introduction with each episode, and also clear instructions on when to press PLAY on your DVD player to remain in sync with our commentary.

The common theme between all the eps we are talking about is the second most famous ship in the fleet - the Pegasus.

Whether it be the original series ship, captained by Lloyd Bridges, or the new series flagship captained by that lass who had the ridges on her nose in Star Trek, the MMM team takes you though the lot.

But before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s start at the beginning - the first appearance of the Pegasus in the episode Living Legend Part 1.

Join the MMM team of Trevor, Tony and David as we begin our revealing odyssey in a galaxy far, far away...

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

Why is the MMM team commenting on the theatrical cut, and not the extended DVD edition you ask?

Well, we feel that ring officiandos have enough on the extended edition release to keep them going, so we feel the poor neglected theatrical cut needs to be revisited.

Come back to where it all began - the beginning of a journey that captivated sci-fi and fantasy fans alike for three thrilling years - The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

The boys talk you through the theatrical cut of the film, the older brother to the more youthful and vibrant extended edition.

As with our recent commentaries, this commentary track has a short introduction, and a clear cue point for when to press play on your DVD.

The MMM series of Buffy commentaries continues with David, Geoff and Tony looking at another Season 1 story - Teacher’s Pet.

Xander falls head over heels when gorgeous substitute teacher Ms. French replaces the deceased biology teacher. Buffy and Willow begin to think there’s something abnormal about Ms. French, especially when she sets a date with Xander. When Buffy discovers Ms. French’s true identity, she must rush to stop her before Xander falls prey to her true nature.

Remember the boys have foolishly committed to covering all the Buffy episodes that don’t already have a commentary. Expect the Season 7 episodes to be covered around 2059.

As always, leave your comments on the forum, send in an mp3 with your thoughts. In short, participate!

MMM Commentary for Star Wars - an original recording from 1977 - please read the notes carefully!

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

The Great MMM Star Wars Project!

At long last, after months of expectation, wonderment and inboxes of email pleading for more details, MMM is proud to bring you the fabled Star Wars Project, much alluded to in our recent podcasts. Please, please read the info below as this release marks a new direction for MMM in the way it releases its commentaries.

It’s a little known fact that the boys at MMM have been friends for much, much longer than anyone really knows. We have been friends for so long that we experienced the thrill of Star Wars being released in those amazing times of the late seventies.

The boys were so caught up in the hype with the film that they wanted to record their thoughts for other to listen to in the future. So, with a portable reel-to-reel tape recorder, a film projector and a borrowed print of the film, the boys, who would one day be the fabled MMM Team, got together and recorded their views on the film, whilst watching it displayed from their noisy projector onto Trevor’s bedsheet in the living room.

Without realising it they invented what is now known as an an alternate commentary, or a podcast, or even what is known in some circles as a CROW (Commentary Released on the Web).

Locked away in the vault for many years, the MMM Team felt it was time to release this ground-breaking, landmark recording for all the world to hear.

Experience all over again the visceral thrill of watching the first Star Wars film for the first time with the MMM Team. Trevor, Tony, David and Geoff, together again, watching the film all those years ago and preserving forever their thoughts and feelings of this seminal experience on audio tape.

This is an MMM commentary that you will remember for many years.

Now for the important bit - starting with this release, all MMM commentary files will have an introduction to them - the file will now NOT start with the beginning of the film. During the introduction, a clear signal will be given for when you need to press PLAY on your DVD player so you can remain in sync with the recording. This process will now be used for any new release from MMM (excluding the ongong release of Doctor Who - The Two Doctors).

Please note this recording was done with the original 35mm print of the film, so if you want to follow along with the team, you will need the DVD of the original film, the version which doesn’t have all the digital enhancements and trickery we are now used to. This commentary was recorded using the ORIGINAL version of the film.

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

MMM presents a commentary track for one of the most horrifying films of all time. And we mean the scary horrifying, not the bad horrifying.

The Omen is one of those films that sits with you long after you have finished watching it - it’s menacing, scary, tense, gripping and just plain jump out of your seat frightening.

That is why it is the perfect way to celebrate the end of our special little Halloween run of commentaries and podcasts.

Gregory Peck is the ambassador to the United States whose wife has a stillborn child. Without her knowledge, he substitutes another baby as theirs. A few years go by, and then grisly deaths begin to happen. The child’s nanny hangs herself and a priest is speared to death in a freak accident. It turns out the child is the son of Satan and can only be killed with the seven daggers of Meggado.

Tony, Trevor David and Geoff will inform, entertain, educate and blaspheme their way through one of the cornerstones of the horror genre.

However, when the girls start getting knocked out of the competition, Buffy and the gang begin to suspect that someone may be behind these not so normal occurrences. <itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

Our second super release for the week, MMM is proud to present our second look at the Superman 2 film, with a commentary for the recently released Dick Donner version of this sequel to the massively popular original film.

For those that don’t know, Dick Donner was fired from the director’s chair due to creative differences with the producers. The version of Superman 2 most are familiar with is credited to the replacement director, Dick Lester.

2006 saw the release on DVD of the much anticipated original vision for Superman 2 - the version that Dick Donner would have given us if he didn’t make such an ultimely exit from the franchise.

Picking up where "Superman: The Movie" left off, three criminals from the planet Krypton are released from the Phantom Zone by a nuclear explosion in space. They descend upon Earth where they could finally rule. Superman, meanwhile, is in love with Lois Lane, who finds out who he really is. Lex Luthor escapes from prison and is determined to destroy Superman by joining forces with the three criminals.

Tony and David are looking forward to guiding you through the version of Superman 2 that should have been. The version that included Marlon Brando, less tomfoolery and more gravitas. Experience with the MMM team an important cornerstone in the history of the Superman franchise - what might have been.

Please note this commentary was recorded using the version of the film included in the 13 disc box set release, and also available in the 2 and 3 disc versions.

MMM Commentary for Superman 2 (Dick Lester version)

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

A big week at MMM, with this the first of two super releases for you. Hot on the heels of Superman the Movie 10 days ago, we today release the first of two commentaries for Superman 2. The team cover the Dick Lester version and the Dick Donner version in two splendifirous commentaries for your enjoyment.

Today, Trevor and Geoff take you through the one that made it to the cinema - the Dick Lester version. As you probably know, Dick Donner was originally to film the first two movies, but creative differences with the producers ended up with him being sacked partway through filming, and Dick Lester was brought in to finish the second film.

But for Lester to claim exclusive director credits on Superman 2, he had to have shot at least 51% of the final film. So, after more filming, and some heavy pruning and "reimagining" of Donner’s original footage, we ended up with the film most of us are familiar with.

It is this version, the theatrical version, that Trevor and Geoff will be talking about in this commentary release.

Keep an eye out in a few days where Tony and David will commentate on the Dick Donner edit.

Please note this commentary was recorded using the version of the film included in the 13 disc box set release, and also available in the 2 and 3 disc versions.

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

Look! Up in the sky! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No! It’s the MMM commentary for Superman the Movie!

Unable to convince the ruling council of Krypton that their world will destroy itself soon, scientist Jor-El takes drastic measures to preserve the Kryptonian race: He sends his infant son Kal-El to Earth. There, gaining great powers under Earth’s yellow sun, he will become a champion of truth and justice. Raised by the Kents, an elderly farm couple, Clark Kent learns that his abilities must be used for good. The adult Clark travels to Metropolis, where he becomes a mild-mannered reporter for the Daily Planet...and a caped wonder whose amazing feats stun the city: Superman! Meanwhile, Lex Luthor, the world’s greatest criminal mind, is plotting the greatest real estate swindle of all time. Can’t even the Man of Steel stop this nefarious scheme?

That’s right, MMM embark on our Superman project and begin with the movie that started it all and shot a young man called Christopher Reeve into international superstardom.

For the first time you could truly believe a man could fly.

Join the mild mannered commentary team of Trevor, David, Geoff and Tony as we discuss the finer points of this classic movie.

Please note this commentary was recorded using the 2000 version of the film, readily available on DVD and also in the mammoth 13 disc box set release.

For those expecting a podcast this week, we apologise - Trevor has found it has taken longer than expected to put the episode together. Podcast #45 will be out without fail next Thursday.

MMM conclude our look at Season 3 Doctor Who with our commentary for the season finale - Last of the Timelords.

It’s been a year since The Master unleashed the mysterious Toclafane onto Earth. With the human race and The Doctor enslaved under The Master’s control, Martha Jones is the only person that can help stop the evil Time Lord.

For those keeping score out there, this is probably the first commentary we have ever done in which we didn’t have much of a love for the episode in question, so be warned!

If you think we are totally wrong, or just plain barmy, let us know on the forums or send us an email for the mailbag.

MMM continues our Star Trek commentary season with a commentary for what is widely regarded as the best Star Trek - The Next Generation has to offer.

Best of Both Worlds part 1 concluded the third season of the massively popular series with the mother of all cliffhangers - will the mighty Borg-ified Picard survive the onslaught of the Starship Enterprise, now helmed by William T Riker?

This episode offers so much to the dedicated and casual viewer alike - space battles unlike we had ever seen before, personal conflict and tension as Commander Riker agonises over leaving the Enterprise for his own command, and the ambitious Commander Shelby, Borg expert, wating in the wings to take Riker’s chair.

Join the MMM team as we look lovingly at this first part of this classic story.

Keep an eye out in a few days for the concluding chapter to this tale.

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

Bringing to an end our massively popular Day of the Dark Knight Project, Batman Begins brings all bat-fans up to date with the adventures of the caped crusader.

As a boy a young Bruce Wayne watched in horror as his millionaire parents were slain in front of his eyes, a trauma which led him to become obsessed with revenge but his chance is cruelly taken away from him by fate. After disappearing to the East where he seeks counsel with the dangerous but honorable ninja cult leader known as Ra’s Al-Ghul, he returns to his now decaying Gotham City overrun by organized crime and dangerous individuals manipulating the system whilst the company he inherited is slowly being pulled out from under him. The discovery of a cave under his mansion, and a prototype armored suit leads him to take on a new persona, one which will strike fear into the hearts of men who do wrong - he becomes, Batman. In the new guise, and with the help of rising cop Jim Gordon, Batman sets out to take down the various nefarious schemes in motion by individuals such as mafia don Falcone, the twisted doctor/drug dealer Jonathan ’The Scarecrow’ Crane, and a mysterious third party that is quite familiar with Wayne and waiting to strike when the time is right.

So kick back and enjoy the MMM team’s commentary for Batman Begins.

MMM Commentary for Godfather 2

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

One of the surprise in our commentary series from 2005 was David’s solo commentary for the first Godfather film. If you haven’t had the opportunity to listen to it yet then you can <ahref=http://www.mmmcommentaries.com/commentaries/godfather.htm>rectify that now. MMM was thrilled by the great critical reaction David’s commentary received from the fans.

With that in mind, David has returned to the fray and recorded a commentary for Godfather 2.

It is the continuing saga of the Corleone crime family tells the story of a young Vito Corleone growing up in Sicily and in 1910s New York; and follows Michael Corleone in the 1950s as he attempts to expand the family business into Las Vegas, Hollywood and Cuba.

If you enjoyed David’s first foray into the shadowy world of the Mafia then his Godfather 2 commentary will not disappoint. David has an evident and intense passion for these films, which comes across when you listen to his thoughts, musings and factual titbits.

As always, we would love to hear your thoughts about David’s effort on our forum.

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

The first of two commentaries from MMM which hope to delve into the complex psyche that is Batman, the 1966 Batman film unfortunately doesn’t offer us much insight, but as compensation it has a rubber shark.

When the four greatest arch super-criminals ever to plague Gotham City join forces, their only objective can only be the entire world! Armed with Penguin-personalized a pre-atomic submarine, an army of ruthless pirates, exploding sharks and octopi, and an arsenal of polaris missiles, the Penguin, the Joker, the Riddler and Catwoman have set their sights on the United World Security Council! Can the dynamic duo, Batman and Robin, stop the United Underworld before its too late? Will they save the Security Council from almost certain dehydration? Can they possibly save the free world from the four most powerful villains it has ever seen? One hint: The worst is yet to come...!

The 1966 Batman film is one that the MMM holds very dear to its collective hearts, and we invite you to join us as we take a trip down memory lane with this amazing movie.

MMM Commentaries is proud to present a commentary for the first episode of a story that put Doctor Who on the map as it were - The Daleks episode 1 - The Dead Planet.

The ship has arrived in a petrified forest on an apparently dead planet. Exploring, the travellers see a fantastic city in the distance. The Doctor wants to investigate further, but Ian and Barbara veto this idea, insisting that they return to the TARDIS. The old man eventually gets his own way by resorting to a trick: he claims that one of the ship’s vital components, a fluid link, needs refilling with mercury, and that the only place this might be found is the city.

Join David as he talks you through an intimate and informative journey through an episode which gave us our first glimpse of the enemies that have become arguably the most iconic alien creature in sci-fi history.

MMM Commentary for the Doctor Who Pilot Episode

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

Sneaking in just before we start off a brand new year, MMM Commentaries presents an alternate commentary for the one that started it all - the Doctor Who pilot - the original you might say!

It’s not widely known that Doctor Who actually had two pilot episodes. The first one was initially only seen by BBC Executives in late 1963. They liked the premise, but asked the Doctor Who team to go back and shoot it again, with a few small changes. Reshooting the episode also gave the director Waris Hussein an opportunity to correct the small technical errors that occurred during the original recording, such as the TARDIS doors malfunctioning.

It is this second attempt at shooting the pilot that forms part of the opening story, An Unearthly Child.

The first pilot was soon forgotten lapsed into obscurity and fan legend. It has appeared in various forms on releases such as The Hartnell Years in 1991and BBC airings in the early 90s. In 2005 the BBC released the In the Beginning boxset of stories, one of which was An Unearthly Child. This release includes a restored version of the original pilot, along with another version which includes all the mistakes and actor line flubs from the original recording.

The MMM Team has chosen to base our commentary on the version you can access from the episode listing on the An Unearthly Child disc. We encourage you though once you have listened to our commentary to check out the other, longer version contained in the Special Features section of the disc.

Special guest and Doctor Who virgin Missy joins the MMM Team of Geoff, Tony and David for this commentary.

A Happy New Year to you all!

MMM Commentary for The Star Wars Holiday Special

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

They said it couldn’t be done. They laughed when we told them we were going to do it. They derided us - we wouldn’t make it, foolhardy to even think of doing it. No prizes for failure.

But we ignored them all, and soldiered on, and so now we proudly present to you the MMM commentary for what many regard as the worst bit of television ever made - The Star Wars Holiday Special (or more commonly known as The One Where They Went to Chewbacca’s House.

For those unfamiliar with this particular part of the Star Wars universe... well... its probably best you remain that way. But if you really want to know, the Holiday Special was burped into existence in 1980 (for canon fans it sits between A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. The show itself is an uneasy mix between cabaret, comedy and sit-com, featuring a galaxy of stars who made their one and only appearance in a Star Wars film. Just some of the stars convinced/bribed/drugged into appearing are Art Carney, Diahann Carroll, and Beatrice Arthur. The cherry on the top of this rather large piece of confection is a musical number by Jefferson Starship.

So download, sit back and enjoy the MMM team’s take on this little known part of the Star Wars universe.

Due to the relative scarcity of the show in question (Lucas abhors it, and wishes he could destroy every copy) it has been decided to include the audio from the production in the background of our commentary so that the listener may share and enjoy at least some of the agony with us.

MMM Commentary for Licence to Kill

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

Well, we have reached the end of our little journey into the long and exciting history of James Bond, in his many incarnations and guises. The film we have chosen to bow out on in our James Bond Marathon is Timothy Dalton’s second stab at the role, Licence to Kill.

After attending the wedding of friend CIA agent Felix Leiter and his bride Della Churchill, James disobeys orders and turns in his license to kill, when ruthless drug lord Franz Sanchez tortures Felix and leaves him for dead and kills Della.

James sets off on a personal vendetta against the drug lord, and arrives in Mexico City. Helped by the beautiful CIA agent and pilot Pam Bouvier, Sanchez’s sexy mistress Lupe Lamora and Bond’s friend and fellow quartermaster ’Q’, Bond plays on both sides of the law, as he infiltrates his organization to bring Sanchez down. Where 007 embarks in the ultimate confrontation and he will not rest until he kills Sanchez and those responsible for torturing Felix and murdering Della.

Licence to Kill has often been cited as the least successful Bond film. Since its release, many authors, fans, and critics have debated the reasons for this; one of the chief reasons often reached is the increase in violence, which led to a 15 rating in Britain and a PG-13 rating in the United States; this was the first Bond film to receive a rating higher than PG in the US or UK, and all Bond films released after this - up to and including Casino Royale - would all be rated 12/12A(UK) and PG-13(US).

Another factor cited for Licence to Kill’s comparatively tepid box office performance is that it was released during one of the most profitable summers in film history, running against such films as Batman; Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade; Star Trek V: The Final Frontier and;Lethal Weapon 2. All of these, particularly Batman, were big hits for their respective studios. No Bond film has been given a summer release since.

The MMM Team of Tony, Trevor, Geoff and David guide you through this underappreciated and oft-neglected addition to the Bond franchise.

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

"Do you expect me to talk?"

"No, Mr. Bond! I expect you to die."

Lethal hats, murderous gold and a killer way to get the ultimate compact car, Goldfinger has it all. And it just happens to be the latest in the MMM James Bond Marathon.

Goldfinger’ is the third film in the EON Productions James Bond series, and the third to star Sean Connery as British Secret Service agent, Commander James Bond 007. Released in September, 1964, the film was produced by Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman, and was the first of four to be directed by Guy Hamilton.

The film is one of the most critically acclaimed of all the James Bond films; for many, critics and fans alike, Goldfinger set the blueprint, the character archetypes, and the standard that the rest of the films of the series would follow.

Join the MMM team in the caravan as we talk about this Bond classic.

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

No, don’t check your calenders, you haven’t got the date wrong - we aren’t commenting on the new Daniel Craig Casino Royale, but rather the first appearance of James Bond, the one that started it all.

1954 saw the appearance of "Jimmy" Bond, American super-agent , out to thwart the dastardly plans of Le Chiffre.

In 1954 CBS paid Ian Fleming $1,000 to adapt Casino Royale into a one hour television adventure as part of their Climax! series.

The episode, aired on October 21, 1954 and starred Barry Nelson as American secret agent "Card Sense" Jimmy Bond and Peter Lorre as Le Chiffre. For this Americanised version of the story, Bond is an agent for "Combined Intelligence," while the character Felix Leiter from the original novel became "Clarence Leiter," a British agent, and a combination of Leiter and Rene Mathis. The name "Mathis" was given to the leading lady, who is named Valerie Mathis (instead of Vesper Lynd).

Join the MMM team of Trevor, Geoff, David and Tony as we talk about this James Bond adventure that began the love affair with James Bond that continues to this day.

If our listeners have the 1967 Casino Royale on DVD, certain editions have this 1954 TV episode as an extra. Our commentary is based on the three act version of the episode. Some releases may have the four act version. The MMM team have endeavoured to ensure that it is not crucial to have the episode to enjoy our commentary.

MMM Commentary for Doctor Who - The Crusade episode 1 - The Lion

<itunes:author>MMM Commentaries</itunes:author>

We are proud to bring you the first of five very special commentaries over the next few weeks, as part of our Doctor Who - Lost in Time project.

In the days before VHS and the booming home sales market for material the BBC decided that nobody wanted these old black and white episodes gathering dust in their vaults, so they started a systematic process of destroying these old episodes, Doctor Who amongst them.

It wasn’t until the early 70s when the efforts of determined fans like Ian Levine stopped this incredibly shortsighted practice and these classic episodes were left further unmolested. It was only through the diligent efforts of such fans and a now enlightened BBC that other copies of these destroyed episodes were uncovered around the world.

But even with these valiant efforts, many older Doctor Who stories remain incomplete, in some cases no episodes exist at all. What the Lost in Time DVD boxset does is collect these orphaned episodes together in one release for all of us to enjoy.

So the MMM Lost in Time project is about providing commentaries for the episodes on this release that were not graced with an officially released commentary. Join the team as we tackle the first of these gems - The Crusade episode 1 - otherwise known as The Lion.

Keep an eye out over the coming weeks as we delve further into this DVD collection - a collection that should be on every sci-fi fans shelf and present to you some fascinating insights into these sadly incomplete and neglected stories

Or for those of you lucky enough to have it on DVD you can use a nifty program called Sharecrow to keep the commentary in sync with the on-screen action.
