As you know from my previous post, Chowder Radio recently joined the Far Point Media family of podcasts. Being part of a family means sharing in both the joy and sadness, the good times and bad.

On April 1st one of the FarPoint Media family, Joe Murphy, lost his battle with cancer and passed away. Joe had leiomyosarcoma carcinoma, a rare disease that affects less than 4 in 1,000,0000 people. Joe had not only been a co-host or integral part of several podcasts in FPM, including The Kickass Mystic Ninjas and Michael and Evo’s Wingin’ It!

Joe was very widely loved by the podcast community, and leaves many, many good friends behind. In a way I feel a bit cheated that I never had the opportunity to meet him as I joined the FPM family during Joe’s last few days. From everything I have heard, he sounded like a gentle, loving person who had a stellar personality. I never knew him, but I wish I had.

That being said, I am linking an mp3 file for you all to enjoy. A show dedicated as a tribute to their fallen friend, Joe’s close friends and co-hosts discuss the many characteristics and memorable moments that made him who he was. They say you never know what you have until it’s gone, but when it comes to Joe, I’d say that wasn’t the case.

Please enjoy the Tribute to Joe Murphy, aka Mason Rocket, aka Randy Inuendo (just click “play now” at the bottom of this post to activate the player). For those of you like me who never knew him, it will give you an idea of why he was loved so much. Don’t worry, it is (for the vast majority) a light-hearted and fun look into his friends’ memories of him. Judging from what I have seen and heard about him, I think Joe would have wanted it that way.

This week I discuss the Super Bowl and what other countries think about American Rules Football (or “Gridiron” as it is called overseas) and what other sports are like. I had an opportunity to watch Aussie Rules Football when I was in Australia and I talk a bit about that.

I also talk a little bit about the tv show “Lost” and why I enjoy it so much - which really goes back to a boyhood fantasy about shipwrecking on a tropical island full of mysteries.

A little bit of news from around the globe closes it out. It is a shorter episode than usual, but I still have fun putting it out.
I have a new intro for my international segment thanks to Adam from http://www.madtownaces.com/. It’s great, I love it, and it was just in time for Andy’s segment about life in Sweden.

Episode #6 is up and posted! I discuss the recent cold weather Sacramento and California have been experiencing and how it has affected the central valley citrus and avocado growers. I also talk about the problems I recently had with GoDaddy as my hosting server and my switch to Libsyn. Talked about RC helicopters and my desire to get one and fly it over a soccer or baseball game. I did have an “idiots in the news” segment and covered some local news.

Music played:
Rantings Of Eva “Still Holding On” (a great song!) from http://www.garageband.com/
Ari Shrine “Try A Little Harder” from http://music.podshow.com

Podcast promos:
808Talk @ http://www.808talk.com/ - A great podcast about everything Hawaii. Hosted by V. Brown, who is extremely enthusiastic and knowledgable about his subject matter.
Israelisms @ http://www.israelisms.com/ - Great humor from Charley and Carol where they discuss politics, weather, society, and comedy in Israel, and Charley’s ability to irritate traffic cops!

Special segment - In honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, I played a few minutes of his famous and powerful “I Have A Dream” speech. If you haven’t heard it before, you need to!

Well, it was determined that GoDaddy, despite saying they are perfect for podcasters, screwed up my podcast feed. They have some server redirect thing going on that prevents iTunes from being able to get to the mp3 files. At Rob from Podcast411’s suggestion, I opened an account at www.libsyn.com, which really caters to and actually cares about podcasters, and directed my feed to look there for my mp3 files - and now my podcast is working great.

A little disappointing that GoDaddy doesn’t support podcasters more - and considering there are tens of thousands of them out there, all needing server space somewhere, it seems a follish business decision to not help out more. Their “podcast” special they have offers less bandwidth and less server storage than their standard packages! Podcasters may be strange and eccentric, but they aren’t stupid!

So please take a listen to the newest episodes, and give me feedback!

In fact, if it wasn’t for Rob over at www.podcast411.com, I would be lost. (Not only is he a great resource and a nice guy, but his show is awesome.
Hopefully I will have things back to normal shortly. Thanks for sticking around!

In this episode, I discuss New Year’s celebrations, my trip to Phoenix to watch the Insight Bowl college football game, and how I have rung in the New Year in the past.

Also, I am excited about my new international segment. The goal is to bring different cultures across the globe to everyone with looks into everyday life in other countries. My good friend Tokyo Joe (from the Made In Japan podcast) gives a quick look into what life in Japan is like, and does so this episode with an overview of ordering pizza - it’s hilarious and you can’t miss it!

The second episode is up and actually has a bit more production quality than the first. I had a bit of fun at the beginning of the podcast with a little bit of silliness, then got into some more general discussion, talked about some nut thiefs, coal mine weddings, and played a couple songs from http://music.podshow.com/.

This episode I wanted to talk about the people who had helped me get started, and I wanted to note them out here: thanks to Travis for helping me get my website up and my server space situated - you’re a good buddy. Mr. Tunes created the intro/outro, and will have a new segment piece for me soon that I hope to have on the show next week. Tokyo Joe was great for giving me advice and telling me his experiences with his “Made In Japan” podcast that I had enjoyed so much. Rob from “Podcast 411″ helped me get my xml feed dialed in, and Scott Fletcher from Podcheck Review did the voiceover work from me.

<itunes:summary>The second episode is up and actually has a bit more production quality than the first.

Tokyo Joe was great for giving me advice and telling me his experiences with his "Made In Japan" podcast that I had enjoyed so much.

Tonight I went to see Flags of Our Fathers in the movie theaters. I had bought the book for my Dad a few years ago for his birthday or Christmas or something, and he had talked about how good it was. For those of you who don’t know, it’s about the Marines in the famous photo on Iwojima during World War II who raised the American flag, and about what the fighting was like there. It was definitely a good movie. When the credits were rolling at the end of the movie, there were real photos from Iwojima. Not a person left the movie theater during this, and no one said a word. It was almost…respectful.

It’s a little strange to think that just 60 short years ago the world was at war. Not that long ago. Now when you look around and see kids with the cell phones, newer and faster cars, music videos, all the pop culture scene…it makes you wonder if anyone thinks back to what happened during WWII, and all the sacrifices that were made.

I was reading the Sacramento News and Review, the local “what’s happening” publication. Their feature article this week was talking about what goes on in the light rail trains, our local mass transit system.

Now I’ve only ridden on light rail a few times, but never had any issues. I’ve heard horror stories, of course, but you have to agree you will get these with any major city train or subway system. The one that really stood out to me in this article was about a man on the train who pulled down his pants and took a dump in the middle of the aisle, then went back to where he was sitting. Can you imagine sitting on the train and watching that? I guess it isn’t that funny, but it makes me laugh to think about the look on everyone’s face watching that - and the look on the face of the person sent in to clean it up.

Anyway, just thought I’d share that nugget.

If you take a look, you will see I added a forums section, so hopefully everyone will make good use of that later on. I am also adding a gellery section which will feature photos from my various road trips.

I almost have my promo complete. I should have that up shortly and my first podcast soon. In the meantime, I’ll start blogging more regularly.
