Anywho, I happened upon this little gem a few days back, and figured it would be absolutely perfect to release as the first ever Geekspeak Video Special Edition. This is a recording of the Anime Manga Influence on American Society Panel I conducted along with Kris N. at Anime Next 2006. There are some small portions of the panel that were not recorded so certain transitions are a bit iffy, but pretty much the entire panel is right here in this video. Audio quality is not bad at all, and the video conversion is to my liking, so I certainly hope you guys feel the same way about it. The file is in mp4 format, although I do have an avi of the file I can release if the demand is high enough. To celebrate, I decided it was time for Showcase Spotlight #6, this time focusing upon one of the things I went to during my two week hiatus: Anime Conventions! To discuss this particular section of geekdom, I called upon Rym and Scott of the GeekNights Podcast for their insight both on Anime Next, and Anime Conventions as a whole. In the episode, we discuss: Anime Next 2006: The Good, the Bad, and the in Between What Anime Conventions Need to Improve The benefits of a good Dealer’s Room The menace that is...FANBOY FUNK! How to keep the overzealous fan under control the easy way, and the hard way. Game Room Etiquette, and a Duck Hunt Tournament. Can I shoot the dog this time? The merits of cosplay, and some of our favorite cosplays. Panels: What it’s like running them, and which ones usually manage to gain our interest. Masquerade: Should they tape it and show the good parts at Closing Ceremonies? We also got into plenty of other tangents, including interesting con memories and stories, and a whole lot more. Interview with Mike Norton, artist on Gravity, Teen Titans Go!, Marvel Adventures Spider-Man, and more. Day 1 Wrap-Up. Day 2 underway, and the place is nuts! Interview with Paul Levitz of DC Comics, currently writer of JSA’s One Year Later arc. Interview with Dallas Middaugh of Del Rey Manga. Day 2 winds down. Interview with Chris Staros, publisher of Top Shelf Productions. Interview with Jesse Bousch, writer of Strange Detective Tales: Dead Love at Oddgod Press. Day 3 is over, and so is the con. The Wind Up: The Olympics are done. FINALLY. This episode was a lot of fun to put together, mostly because the convention was so damn fun! Along with the interviews, I was also lucky enough to get wonderful sketckes from Daniel Acuna, Jesus Saiz, and the wonderful Todd Nauck.
