We’ve got mail!

The new Japanese prime minister has something in common with Barack Obama. They’re both being accused of being an elitist.

Once again, Japanese technology has come through with a life-saving device to keep oldsters from getting hurt when they fall down. It’s the geriatric airbag!

Speaking of oldsters, as the death rate has risen, a crematorium crisis has arisen. Seems there just aren’t enough of them!

In our brand-new Religion Corner, we examine the "miracle" in Italy when water was turned to wine.

Our Dick of the Week is Batwoman, a nurse who made a regrettable choice for her kid’s "Show and Tell" at school.

We have a special guest interview this week with our neighborhood Buddist Monk, Gomyo, aka Kevin Seperic. He has combined his interests in Buddism, rap music, and graffitti and formed a group called Hoodie Monks and we end the show with a song from Hoodie Monks called "On the Road Home."

That’s it for this week. Thanks for listening!

- Georg explains why there’s no E on the end of his name.
- Peter provides us with this week’s Dick of the Week, a guy with impressive swimming skills, and tells us why we were wrong about the snakes.
- Frando Bagel tells us about his clown bus experience.
- Julio from New York has a really good podcast called "Julio From New York." You should check it out!

Japanese scientists have discovered some fish living 30,000 feet
under the ocean, deeper than it was thought fish could survive. But can
you eat them? Check out the video here.

Congratulations to the four, count ’em, four, Japanese scientists who landed Nobel prizes for Chemistry and Physics!

If you’ve ever slept through a classical concert, you can appreciate
this "Sleepy Bed" concert, brought to you by Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream.
Check out the video...

Dolce Heavenly Concert Japan - video powered by Metacafe

And speaking of food, some other Japanese scientists have discovered that eating chicken legs might be able to reduce your blood pressure. Problem solved.

The government’s "Visit Japan" campaign wants people to visit Japan. But some Inn and Hotel owners aren’t quite on board.

Japanese artists are earning their keep by coming up with some cool new designs for the normally boring barcode.

Jen fills us in on her wedding plans.

We finish the show with a cool rap tune from Dakoda Collins, who
just happens to be the son of Carol Birtwell, the lovely "Voice of
Planet Japan" who introduces the show each week. It’s called "Come Up."

That’s it for this week. Thanks for listening!

Speaking of Sarah Palin, the Masunaga Optical Manufacturing Co. of Japan is raking in the big yen ever since Ms. Palin revealed that her specs came from the company’s "PhD." line.

Happy Birthday to Tomoji Tanabe. The 113-year-old Japanese man is the world’s oldest man and gives credit to, among other things, his habit of drinking a glass of milk everday. And speaking of Japan’s aging society, we delve into the fascinating world of adult diaper fashion shows.

IreneB, the lovely and talented singer from Spain, dropped us an email to let us know that her new song, "Forgive Me Now," is now available on iTunes. We also got some fun email from Georg from Germany and Denny Browne.

Japan has a brand-new Prime Minister. His name is Taro Aso, but we call him Timmy.

In our Tech Corner, we take a look at a new cell-phone "key" that will unlock and start your car and a new "mini karaoke" machine aimed at high school kids too young to get into karaoke establishments.

We honor two Dicks of the Week this time. The first one is a German journalist who just wanted to catch a plane. Tip of the Hat to Hisham for sending it. The other dick is the Ugandan minister who wants to make mini-skirts illegal. Say what?

We end the show with a repeat performance of IreneB’s "Forgive Me Now."

That’s it for this week. Thanks for listening.

Could it be a woman for the very first time?

If you’re pregnant, you’re gonna have to start buckling your seat belt. Your exemption has been revoked!

"Family Restaurants" in Japan have fallen on hard times and many of them may be closing soon. So if you’re looking for some really mediocre food, better get it while the gettin’s good.

There’s another scandal in the sumo world as 3 Russian wrestlers have been kicked out of the Japanese Sumo Association after having been busted for smoking pot.

Our Dick of the Week is a Tokyo man who was discovered with 51 poisonous snakes in his apartments. The neighbors are not amused.

We end the show with some great music from JabBee. It’s called "Baby" and can be found at Jindies.com, your source for great Japanese music.

That’s it for this week. Thanks for listening!

We answer some email from listeners and in the process talk about how you can teach English in Japan, why some people really love badminton, and Joe Black’s conversion.

Our friend Tokyo Dan at the "What’s Happening in Tokyo" podcast, has created a really cool Planet Japan widget that listeners can put on their own blog or website. Just go to the WHIT website and click on "Get Widget" on the Planet Japan widget.

In this week’s Tech Corner you’ll learn about the wallet phone and a new gadget to keep you from losing your stuff.

Our Eigo a Go Go takes a look at what lies behind the word "karaoke."

Now you can drink eel in a can. Yum! And if you want to lose weight, there’s a new soy product that’ll fill you up in a hurry.

Our Dick of the Week is an Australian preacher who told a whopper of a lie.

The show ends with a great jazz tune from a Japanese group called Tremolo 55. It’s called "Korone," and is available over at Jindies.com.

That’s it for this time. Thanks for listening!

Doug’s life is complete. He has his iPhone.

We examine why judo master Ryoko Tani’s bronze medal at the Olympics just wasn’t good enough for some people and try to decide if badminton deserves to be an Olympic sport.

We discover what lengths Japanese women go to in order to stay young-looking and let you in on the secret ingredient in an age-old facial treatment.

Some soapland operators in Japan are making sure that men over 50 get special treatment.

We have 3, actually 4 Dicks of the Week. It’s a Dick-o-Rama! They include a very popular bear, a jilted Korean lover, and a racist moron.

Our Eigo a Go Go this week is "Honcho" (as in "head honcho"), which comes from the Japanese word "Hanchou."

We close the show with a tune called "Blue" from Japanese singer Daiki, courtesy of Jindies.com.

It’s summer festival season in Japan, which means lots of drinking and dancing in the streets!

We say goodbye to the WaiWai section of the online Mainichi Daily News. Discovering a newfound respectability, the newspaper has axed its colorful tabloid news section.

We’ve Got Mail! From Brian and Shane!

In our Tech Corner, we look at a spiffy new earthquake survival suit for your pet and also examine the ancient Japanese art of face-reading. We wrap things up with a look at the possibility that Nintendo may have to stop selling its popular Wii game player. But don’t panic just yet.

In this week’s Eigo a Go Go, we look at the word "tycoon". It actually was derived from the Japanese word "taikun," which means "big you."

Hokkaido continues to experiment with daylight savings time (or "summer time" as it’s called in Japan). One small problem, though...it’s voluntary.

Our Dick of the Week honors go to Michael Savage, right-wing talk show host, for his take on autistic kids. We also honor Mary McFate for her 10-year deception with "Ceasefire PA," an anti-gun lobbying group.

We end the show with some great Japanese reggae music from a group called Suiren. The tune is called "Shabontama no Holiday," and it’s courtesy of the fine folks over at Jindies.com, where you’ll find lots of great Japanese music.

That’s it for this week! Thanks for listening!
